Accompanying Discussion: Ask students what sorts of activities they do with their grandparents or elders. Talk about how the quilt links the past to the present, and discuss how families preserve memories today.

Accompanying Activities: Give each student a square piece of paper. Have the decorate their squares with something that meaningful to them. After class, glue or tape the squares together to make a class quilt for each library class or grade.
